John K. Chan

John last held the position of AGM of Business Strategy, Business Market of Cable & Wireless HKT.  Leading a team of marketing managers, business analysts & research specialists, he was responsible for the segment's strategy formation, business development efforts.  John left CWHKT in October 1999 in pursuit of the emerging on-line trading and e-brokerage opportunity.

Prior to joining CWHKT, John had held various senior positions in management, sales, marketing, operation and engineering in a number of prominent multinational technology companies, both in U.S. and in HK.

In the Internet Infrastructure area, he was Country Manager and Director of Cabletron Systems (HK).  As a leading U.S. networking company, Cabletron Systems network infrastructure solutions provide high performance, fault tolerant networks to many of the world largest enterprises and organizations such as the U.S. Pentagon, airports, airlines, banks, and financial institutions.

In the System Integration and outsourcing area, he was General Manager of Computervision Asia (HK).  As a leading System Integrator & the 2nd largest Sun service partner in the world then, Computervision provides Business Process Re-engineering, Electronic Document Management Systems & outsourcing support for global enterprises. 

In the PC/LAN sales & services area, John was Vice President of TRICOM Computers responsible for the successful turnaround of the company back in 1995. As a leading PC/LAN sales & services provider, TRICOM computer was one of the largest enterprise reseller & service partner of HPs, Apple & AST PC & servers in HK.

John started his career in the technology industry as a Staff Scientist at Rockwell International Microelectronics US (now known as Conexant systems) in 1978 and quickly rose through the ranks. As an Engineer IV project leader, he was responsible for the design & implementation of the Rockwell International R656X Floppy Disk Controller Series based on NMOS/CMOS VLSI technology. John had then left Rockwell after 6 years of service & founded his own consulting company specialized in software development & networking solutions.

John graduated from the California Institute of Technology (CalTech), Pasadena, California with a Bachelor Degree in Computer Science & Electrical Engineering. He was born in Hong Kong but worked in the US technology industry for 15 years before returning to Hong Kong in 1993.
